From Humble Beginnings
It all started when, as a 13 year old middle school student, I watched a demonstration by another student in a Home Economics class. She bent wire into a “J” shape and affixed a bead. The fire was lit!
That same day after school I walked from school to the adjoining town where there was a hardware store and a florist. I purchased some cheap wire and a small package of wood beads. My early efforts were not elaborate, but I found I had a good market among my peers at $1 per pair, which allowed me to afford better quality wire and beads.
I’m from a large family, and launching my mini-business literally changed my life. As a teenager it allowed me to purchase those teenage girl luxuries that were outside of the family budget. I was always an independent soul, but Lynne’s Loops financed that independence.
During a 42 year sometimes stressful corporate career, shiny wire and sparkling beads were therapy, providing the creativity I didn’t often experience in my “real” job.
Those humble beginnings were over 50 years ago, and I’m still keeping it simple. I still bend wire by hand, loving the way the wire, glass, and metal feel between my fingers. And while buying supplies in bulk allows me to keep my prices low for these little pieces of art, I am always looking for old jewelry to recycle in to one of a kind artisan creations.
